Yesterday, after a light breakfast in our campground, we headed out to Freeport to visit the L.L. Bean flagship store and factory outlet. Not finding the obnoxious yellow rain jacket for which I was looking, we left empty handed. We finally made it into Portland and went to the Public Market for lunch. The family split up among all of the vendors and tried a lot of the different foods available. We were joined by Michael, Barbara, and Mary, Victoria and Laurie, Elizabeth, Isabelle, and Sophie, and Uncle Rick. We then walked down to the water and out onto the ferry pier. We continued along Commercial Street until we hit the narrow gauge railroad museum. The kids were just about melting down by this point, so we made the decision to spend the afternoon in an air-conditioned movie theater. Jll dropped the kids (which now includes Joseph as Heather and Lauren left him with us until we get to Boston, where they will catch up with us) and I at the theater along with Sophie and we watched Monsters University. I was surprised that none of the kids fell asleep. During the movie, Jll went shopping to resupply the RV.
For dinner we headed to Elizabeth's house, where the kids played outside and the adults grazed over the left-overs from yesterday's feast. We intentionally left early, just after seven, so that we could get the kids to bed early. Staying up late and moving all day has taken its toll and they are starting to sag a little bit. One of the comments we are making with more and more frequency is "we broke the kids." This does not bode well for us as we head south into the heat and humidity. Hopefully they will acclimate quickly, or the wheels will start falling off of this trip.
Today is our last full day in Maine, as we head to Boston tomorrow for the July 4th holiday.
