July 24
Today was our only full day in Amsterdam and we started by sleeping in! At this point in our trip, we’ve hit what I like to call “travel saturation.” In essence, we’ve visited so many museums, monuments, and “must see” spots that they start to lose their wow factor. When I offered to buy tickets for us to visit the museums in Amsterdam weeks ago, my siblings declined! Instead, we spent the day wandering around and enjoying each other’s company.

We started with breakfast at the same restaurant in our neighborhood where Dagny made a scene last night. It was delicious. Then, we took a train to Amsterdam Central and walked towards the Anne Frank Museum. We stopped outside the museum for a bit before walking around the Negen Straatjes area.
We did some window shopping and stopped at a cafe to play more cards and have coffee.

We even found a pastel de nata shop (Mr. Nata) that’s owned by a Portuguese man. We shared two and it was a delightful throwback to the beginning of our summer. Although, we agreed that they weren’t quite as good as the ones that we made in our baking class.

For dinner, we stopped at an award-winning Chinese restaurant. Alastair mostly ordered for us and it was an absolute feast of fried rice, meats, noodles, etc.

We walked around until we found a bar parked on a canal that met our evening card-playing needs! We haven’t treated our 48 hours in Amsterdam like a touristy race around town. I’ve actually really appreciated our slow pace!
